GEM-LOC Edges, Built to Last
Is there anything more disappointing than a chipped countertop edge? With GEM-LOC laminate countertop edges, they’re a thing of the past. Our solid surface is more durable than laminate and can be easily buffed to look like new. There is no regular maintenance required, period.
GEM-LOC edges are available in a wide selection of colors and styles, so you can always achieve the look you want. Not only do we stock all the most popular patterns from Formica® and Wilsonart®, but we can make GEM-LOC edges with any non-metallic High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) on the market.
We manufacture our GEM-LOC edges with an MR50-rated moisture-resistant medium-density fiberboard (MDF) substrate that won’t warp or swell. For our solid surfaces, we use durable acrylics that are commonly used to make entire countertops. Everything is held together with high-strength glue. All of our edges and surfaces are waterproof and no- or low-VOC.
Versatile GEM-LOC Edge Profiles
The pieces for GEM-LOC countertop edges are manufactured 94 3/4” long, 1 9/16” tall, and 1/4” thick, while backsplash caps are 94 3/4” long, 1 3/8” tall, and 1/4” thick. Depending on your needs, we can thin our backsplash caps for a custom fit.
We offer three different countertop edge profiles to make sure you always have the perfect fit:
FB Profile
The Flat Back profile is smooth and requires no rabbet, allowing for easy, flexible installation. We recommend a build-up for this profile.
TG Profile
The Tongue and Groove profile is a multipurpose design that works with a build-up or as a standalone edge and features a rabbet for secure installation. Build-up can be applied after the edge is installed.
T Profile
The Tongue profile features a simpler rabbet but requires a build-up to ensure structural strength.
GEM-LOC Backsplash Cap Profiles
Our GEM-LOC backsplash caps come in two profiles which can both be scribed against any wall:
BC Profile
The Backsplash Cap profile features a rabbet to guide installation.
BCF Profile
The Backsplash Cap Flat Back is flat and does not require a rabbet, giving installers the most flexibility.
GEM-LOC Edge Components
The substrate (backside/base) we use to manufacture our GEM-LOC edges is MR-50 rated moisture resistant medium density fiberboard (MDF). HPL (High Pressure Laminate a.k.a. the laminate) is glued and pressed to the substrate using high strength glue. And, solid surface materials are acrylics commonly used to make entire countertops. For GEM-LOC edges, the top and bottom edges are created by gluing in strips of solid surface using high strength glue.
All materials used in manufacturing GEM-LOC edges are either no or low VOC and all of the surface and seam materials are considered waterproof.
Easy to Install
GEM-LOC laminate countertop edges are easy to install for any carpenter and use tools and skills common to the trade. Tongue and Groove or tongue-only profiles require a router and slot cutter bit, while flat back profiles do not. Cutting GEM-LOC edges can be done easily with a miter saw and, optionally, a disk sander. No special blades are necessary!
We recommend finishing seams with a fine flat file. If you want everything extra smooth, a little 000 steel wool is all you need. To attach GEM-LOC Premier edges, simply apply a waterproof wood glue like Titebond III and wipe away any excess glue with a clean rag. If you want to really make everything shine, we recommend finishing up with a high-quality wax surface treatment like PROTECTALL™ Shine Plus.
Masking tape and a good waterproof wood glue are all that is needed for the actual attachment to the countertop.
Warranty
Loti Corp warrants to the original owner of GEM-LOC edges, installed by a professional and in a professional manner, that at its option will replace this product if it fails due to any manufacturing defect during the first 10 years after initial installation, except for damage caused by excessive heat, physical or chemical abuse, or acts of nature.
The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to GEM-LOC edges (1) installed by a professional, (2) purchased for use in the United States and it’s territories, Canada or Mexico, (3) which has not been moved from its original place of installation, (4) which fails solely due to a manufacturing defect.
Loti Corp can not be held liable for the failure of any glue lines not produced at the time of manufacture. Warranty extends only to replacement of GEM-LOC edges and does not extend to any labor and/or materials necessary for re-installation of the product. Furthermore, Loti Corp shall not be held liable for any loss, direct, consequential, or incidental damages arising out of the use of GEM-LOC edges or any other products manufactured, distributed, or recommended by Loti Corp.
